Two new designs of child`s Windsor chair in the book.
These child`s Windsor chairs are completely new designs, specifically for the age range of 4 to 12 years. Two styles are shown, one is a Windsor side chair, and the other a Windsor chair with arms. The overall height to the crest is 775mm, and the top of the seat is 367mm, measured from the floor.
These new designs were developed and written over 5 years, taking 2.5 years to produce the chairs, and another 2.5 years for the book.
The book`s 378 pages include 555 colour photos and 247 drawings on how to make the chairs from start to finish. Every part is explained step by step for the beginner craftsman and the craftsman with intermediate skills.
In its pages are chapters that work right through the whole process of woodturning, making the seat and crest, and the final procedure of assembling the chair. Also discussed is the choice of timber to use for the different parts of the chair.
When the designs were worked out, the methods used for making the chairs were made as simple as possible. One important point was, that this should not affect the chair`s quality, and that the classic style of the chair, with its beautifully shaped legs and spindles, which are turned with the bulb, vase, cove, groove, scotia and bead detailing, should be maintained. The aim was to ensure this child's Windsor chair should be stylish, and also a sophisticated piece of Windsor chair furniture.
